Hi All,

I was finally able to get my hands on a Yeticom Optima III mobile. I believe this to be the 3rd gen, as the filter button is now on the clarifier knob and the faceplate says "10-12m AM/FM/SSB Ham Transceiver." If I'm mistaken, please correct me.

My problem is, I purchased this used and the receive appears to be way down. When I put it in the mobile, I have almost zero static on AM and my receive range is severely limited.

I have checked my SWR as well as my antenna connections...

IRF520 vs IRF523

A coworker of mine has a Cobra 29LX with the IRF520 MOSFET modification. Well, it seems to have stopped working and I was wondering if I could use the IRF523 mosfet in its place (and retune of course). The biggest difference I see is that the breakdown voltage is lower (80v vs 100v) and the drain current is slightly lower. I woudl suspect that the drain current will lower the overall output of the radio, but honestly, i dont really care about that. just want to get him running again.

DAVE MADE?

View attachment 20418 This recently sold on eBay for $750. It was specifically advertised and labeled as a Dave Made. I recently saw a YouTube clip of a knockoff Dave made. This one looks very close to the one in the clip. My technical knowledge isn't good enough to discern whether it is or isn't. I'm sure many of you will know within a second if this is a Dave Made or a hand grenade. I was also thinking that if it indeed is not a Dave made, that would be an outright deceptive...

Cobra 29 ltd classic staying keyed up?

So I have a 2016 cobra 29 ltd classic and when I turn the radio on it shows 4 watts without keying the mic and the tx/rx light stays green. I key the mic and the tx/rx light turns red and I have good modulation. I release the mic, the light goes back green and I still have 4 watts on the meter. The pa works and I hear static coming from receiver. I tried different mics and a new stock final and same thing. I gave it a good visual and no scorched compenets or anything like that. Any idears? Going to sell my Optima MK3 . I bought the Radio Dec 2015 so I have had it for a year. I always use external speakers on my Mobil radios, This radio was used as a base on a power supply and was never mobil. I was moving so equipment around and reached around the back of the radio and plugged the speaker back into the Jack. and I guess I didn't push it in correctly and broke the plastic jack on the back of the radio. I opened the radio and saw that its connected to the board and Plastic....

So, I was going to ship my radio (G.DX95T) to Bells and have them give it a good once over, and a good ol' peak, tune and align...and maybe a new bezel and faceplate (I have these).

Bells site says "Not Accepting Repairs"

I'm looking for an honest and trustworthy tech, not your brother in-laws uncles sisters friend.

Need Help Selecting A Better Transistor

Hi guys, Have a friend with one of RM Italy boxes. Don't have the model # on hand but it's one their typical smaller ones. It's not the little 203, but like the next size up, longer and red in color, 200W range. The preamp transistor failed and I replaced with same for him. Is a BF199. It worked about a month and failed again. I had picked up a Lot of 10 of them so I popped another one in and off he goes. So if this one fails then it is likely apparently that there is something going bad...

2sb817 upgrade? Dual final 959 needs a better regulator.

Is there a suitable replacement for the 2sb817 that Is capable of handling more current? I have a galaxy 959 with dual 13n10s with a 13n10 as a driver. It is doing 55 pep, I put a 2sb817 in it, but even it gets pretty warm. Is there a suitable replacement capable of more? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!! alex
