Meter swing

So I’ve been watching a few vids on the tube and noticed that the meters on their radios are swinging like it’s on ssb when it’s on AM. Like all the way to the wall when they modulate. How is this done and why? Is it a type of Mod?

HOA antenna restrictions

Hi. I resently moved into a HOA senior community that has antenna restrictions.
Someone told me of a new FCC law that says HOA's cannot restrict HAM Radio antennas anymore. Does anyone know if this is true? If so. Where do I get a copy of it to show the HOA. I have a wire offset windom antenna that I used to use for HF. I have lots of room in my attic but, have a concrete tile roof. Not to sure if that roof will diminish the use of my antenna. I would like to hang it in free space...

Is anyone using this combo?

If so, how do you save repeaters into memory? I use RT Systems for most of my rigs. All of them have a separate box to enter transmit frequency. This only has option to enter receive. Never seen that before.

Sorry for my stupidity, I have a new gain master that is still temporarily set up In an umbrella hole on my deck. perfect size. I've been using it to test a few radios. It has a great SWR of 1.2 max. I get next to no rx hits on all three radios. I decided to check impedance at my meter between radio and antenna. DEAD short. Went to antenna took off coax checked between center pin and shell. DEAD short. This don't seem right. My SWR is great. Looking at the GM I don't know what could be...

So I changed my car a little while back from a 2010 Ford Mondeo (sold as Fusion in the US) which had a Kenwood TS480, a Kenwood TM-D710, a screwdriver antenna and dual band antenna installed to a 2019 MK4 Ford Focus. Work is quiet so I decided I'd swap all my radio gear in.

Looking at how hard it was going to be to route the power cables from the battery due to lack of room between the bulkhead grommet and engine I thought I'd better take a look at cable routing before I drilled a hole in...

I have been playing around with this thing to today and i actually got it to work. What i did was drill out the center of a direct TV dish and mounted a 4 foot fire stick antenna there. I have it up about 10 feet right now as i am still working the bugs out but after figureing out the ground for this antenna i have the SWR down to 1.2. It's seems to receive and transmit very well and it is very directional with great rejection which is what i wanted from the start of this little project. The...

I wasn't expecting anything in return for my recent efforts on a friends 148GTL-DX but he surprised me with a Shure 444-Demco Edition microphone. He told me the element was no good in the microphone but I have a plan and a fix for that. Pictures to come!

2517 issues

I recently traded up a galaxy 2517. The older version with a 2166 driver and two 2312's. I can not for the life of me get it to swing more than 6 watts on am and 8 on side band. Also noticed the variable power will only turn up to 3 watts no matter where you adjust the high low inside the radio. What do yall think is going on? Maybe the driver shot possibly? One or both of the finals damaged? The radio is in pristine condition cosmetically and the only thing that appears to have been done to...

I have a galaxy 1000 and it has the 8975 tubes in it I want to replace them with the el 509 I need the pinout for the 8975 that are in it like on the el 509`s pin 1/8 go together 2/7,3/6 and 4/5 are the heater I just don`t know what pins are what on the 8975`s a little help please thanks BigRed back out

View attachment 33010 Has a decent high SN (75022xxxx) as shown in pics. Got great audio reports in the 4 days I've owned it. Keys 3-4w and swings up to 5-6w on my non peak meter. I was told that it was doing 18w or so on a Dosey from prior owner and seller. It does have a super swing kit in it with cap/resistor mod and D9 diode has been snipped and lifted on one end (per normal peakNtune on these rigs). Very clean unit IMO otherwise with very few scuffs and display face is VG....

Got this coming in. Was cheap enough and appears minty and supposedly only has talkback and tune. Does 4w and swings to 20w on guys Dosey.

Would turning L10 down lower my dk?? Or is there something else I should look to adjust?? I may decide to run an amp with it hence the questions.

What other things should I look for when I pop the top as far as cut things??

No, Seriously! not me.
He drives for a rock hauling company that has cracked down on drivers for running big power radios in the trucks. so i sold him a favorite of mine, Uniden 66. i got a few of them. now hes wanting it to be louder. I told him to turn the talkback up. It will feel louder then. ha. not what he wanted to hear.

anyway, he was reading about the TopGun Modulator Board and wanted to know if it would work in his 66. I told him i didnt know anything about it but would check into...
