Poorly treated Navaho trc-490

Hey guys, I picked this trc 490 up recently and didn't pay a lot for it but it was sold as working. Well it does seem to work so far with some prelim checks but I am amazed it actually works (minus the squelch) due to the corrosion on the inside of this thing. The bottom of the board doesnt look as bad but on the component side... oh my.
Debating on just keeping it for parts as the corrosion damage to me is extensive
I'll try and figure out how to get a pic up. Amazing anything works on it....

Any antenna gurus?

I had a 100 foot horizontal end fed wire for my receiver when I lived in Maryland and it worked quite well. I live in North Carolina now and only have about 30 feet behind my house before a line of trees. I was wondering how would a 100 foot end fed horizontal wire work if it's in a square shape with each side being 25 feet long? Would it be omnidirectional? I can't find anything about that configuration or how it would receive.

I am considering putting up a 6 meter antenna and have read several articles about the "Magic Band" but am still not sure what to expect.

Will I go weeks at a time without hearing anything? Or is it a little less random than that?
Can anyone share their experiences?

This handheld is in good shape cosmetically but I honestly don't know the first thing about it. I'm not licensed and I don't know much about the unit other than it's in good shape and it powers up. The unit also scans, ect because I was able to figure that much out with the manual that I have printed out (Which will come with it). Here's a question I have searched for but have found no real answer and not sure there is a real one. Can the police arrest you if you have illegal export radio and amplifier in your vehicle hooked up? I have asked some that I know well and they didn't really know and said they wouldn't be bothered with it unless something was going on illegally. LOL! I recently picked up a 1990 model cobra 29 Ltd for very cheap, I’m not much of an Am’er, but I thought what the heck I’ll try out one of these Philippines cobra 29’s... it is dirty looks like it has sat up for years etc, in poor to fair cosmetic condition.

So I pull of the covers, spend 15 mins looking it over, it looks fairly untouched, d11 is clipped, one coil is just slightly spread. The slug is still in l14. But it does look like somebody has messed with l17 because the core was...

Just to help avoid confusion, there are currently 4 versions of the Lincoln II floating around.
V1 is the first attempt at the new radio, had several flaws that are already documented here and elsewhere.
V2 are the V1 that have had upgrades to help solve a few of the first bugs.
V3 is the factory version with a few more bug fixes.
Now there is the President Lincoln II Plus.

This is a repost from the currently-defunct CB Tricks forum. This post is almost three years old, but seemed interesting enough to repost here.



Just bought a new tube tester! Wahoo!

So, just how much of a geek must you be to get excited over something as intrinsically boring and fundamentally yawn-inducing as a TUBE TESTER ? ? ? Sure sounds like watching-paint-dry territory, doesn't it?

Connex 3300 output

Looking to see what else could be the problem with my connex 3300hp it's an older radio swr was high didn't catch it in time went from 30 watts output to 0 output changed the c1969 and the c2166 and it's doing about 4.5 watts but on the side by audio chip where the b754 is located it is getting a little warm what else can I do

Trying to find the valve of the 2 resistors that go to pin 2&11 and the one that goes to pin 5 & 9 on both tubes. 5&9 are wired straight across the 2 tubes, so you only have 1 resistor. Also i can only turn the -vdc down to -157 vdc . I put a NTE5156a zener 100v x 5w. The pot someone put between the zener an ground will turn down too 3 ohms. 238

Keep wanting a classic D-104 lollipop mic with a Tug-9 base with second switch for true desktop type use vs squeeze activation.

Was wondering the differences or compatibility with the old crystal Dynamic style element or newer Electret element when used on 2 different type rigs and if I would want powered or non powered?

First rig is a Ranger 296DX (aka 148) with 4 pin
Second rig would be a Galaxy 86v with 4 pin

I'm thinking non-powered would work with both if needed as they both have...
